Femicide is preventable. VAWCCs play a critical role in community safety by holding a multi-sector focus on gender-based violence. There is a need for brave leadership at all levels of society and the political will to move the violence response eco-system upstream toward prevention. Working together to implement the Renfrew recommendations is one path.
VAWCCs can further the vision of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls by prioritizing the call to action.

Ending violence against Indigenous women and girls will require fundamental realignment and transformation of systems and society as they currently exist.
